Songs & Ballads

Traditional song

is very much part of our interest and we not only sing these songs but also actively seek out new versions or attempt to complete and piece together fragments.

Doncaster Folk Club – One of our favourite places for an informal sing …every Tuesday night at The Mason’s Arms, in Doncaster Market Place.

Sunday Sing – Another of our favourite singing venues is The Kelham Island Tavern, in Sheffield (CAMRA Pub of the Year 2009 and 2010) on the fourth Sunday in the month. This is an unaccompanied singing session run by Richard Arrowsmith. Lots of choruses and great harmonies. Why not come down and make a noise?

We are happy to arrange performances of traditional musical items for groups of all kinds and we are committed to developing wider audiences for these aspects of our traditional heritage. (See ‘Artists’)

Check out Paul & Liz’s albums – ‘Under the Leaves’, ‘Songbooks’ and ‘Spring Tide Rising’, ‘Wait for No Man’. They’re all full of traditional songs as well as some less venerable, but no less interesting, offerings. (See ‘Sales’)

For information on local songs or to book performances and workshops contact us at admin@hallamtrads.co.uk stating your area of interest and, if a booking,  nature/size of audience.
