Teaching & Learning

are at the root of all traditions whether musical, dance or customs. To keep the flame alight we need to share our knowledge and skills. In a very real sense this process enables people of all ages to share equally in the traditions of the country into which they were born or into which they wish to be re-born. Folk music and the culture which it represents is not an historical artefact but rather a living and breathing set of social values which enable and enfranchise those fortunate enough to participate in them at any and every level.

This page exists to offer encouragement and source materials for anyone to try. The musical arrangements are examples of material already used by young and old players and the lesson plans represent lessons already taught and proven in the mainstream classroom as well as in workshops at folk festivals.
